Prevailing wet spell is beneficial for agriculture production boosting the prospects of Rabi crops particularly of wheat to meet the set target during the current year.
The rain is also very useful in the irrigated areas, as it is most beneficial for enhancing per acre yield of the commodity. This rain will not only improve flow of water in irrigated areas but also charge the sub-soiled water to generate more water for the tube-well.
According to Met Office, most parts of the country are in the grip of westerly wave, which is likely to produce more rain at scattered places of Upper Punjab, Upper NWFP and Kashmir.
According to official sources, the harvesting of wheat crop is in progress in Sindh province while it would commence in Punjab next month.
The wheat crop has been sown over an area of 8.3 million of hectares against the target of 8.4 million hectares all over the country. In Punjab province it was sown over 6.37 million hectares, Sindh 887000 hectares, NWFP 767,000 hectares and Balochistan 345,000 hectares.
