The Directorate General Civil Defence will organise a comprehensive course next month in Lahore for citizens and government functionaries on latest protective techniques in times of any disaster.
The 12-day course from April 17 to 29 is being arranged in collaboration with the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) based at Geneva, Director General Civil Defence Sarfaraz Arshad Toor said on Saturday.
The training course will be held at the Civil Defence Academy in the Punjab metropolis, which is also the regional centre of the ICDO.
Toor said the course is also designed to create awareness about possible collateral hazards linked to use, storage and transportation of dangerous chemicals or radioactive material in the manufacturing cycle.
Such problems, he said, were universal with varying degrees of intensity and frequency and require international co-operation, assistance and exchange of technical know-how to tackle them efficiently.
The participants of the course will be trained in latest protective techniques in hazardous situations like huge fire, release of poisonous gases, nuclear radiation or other emergency and in ways to rescue trapped people, provide first-aid and move the victims to safer places.
Tour said similar courses would be organised in future by the Civil Defence Directorate in other urban centres of the country with the co-operation of ICDO.
