Federal Population Welfare Minister Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain has said that report on implementation of international recommendations for inculcating Population Welfare awareness among masses will be issued on April 1 and 2,500 Ulema have been trained for this purpose.
He was addressing a press conference in connection with launch of 'Population Summit Report' here on Wednesday.
He said the ministry has prepared the report in the light of recommendations made by the Senate chairman. The ministry has assured the involvement of Ulema obligatory regarding population welfare awareness, he added.
Shahbaz Hussain said the ministry will train 13,000 Ulema. Out of these, 2,500 Ulema have completed their training and started awareness programme, while 4,000 Ulema are currently under training. He said now people are more aware of issues pertaining to population welfare. The ministry has stopped funding 600 NGOs, involved in Population Welfare activities, he added.
He said the ministry is co-ordinating with the ministries of education, health and environment for promoting population welfare.
Shahbaz Hussain said the ministry is consulting the railway ministry to provide medicines to railway hospitals for setting up population welfare booths at every railway station.
He said the population welfare ministry has involved the private sector for the first time in population control campaign, and has signed agreement with the Sugar Mills Association and Pakistan Ordnance Factories Wah for launching awareness programmes.
Shahbaz Hussain said the American Population Council has appreciated government's performance regarding women welfare programmes.
