Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Sikandar Hayat Bosan has said that great potential existed for further improving the trade volume between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The minister was talking to a delegation of Bangladeshi traders and importers of agricultural products who met him here on Wednesday. He said that farming and business community in the two countries needed to play a proactive role in boosting the bilateral trade.
Bosan offered co-operation to Bangladesh traders in fruits, vegetables and livestock and informed them that Pakistan could also assist Bangladesh in seed production, processing, storage and packaging along with development of regulatory systems.
He said Bangladesh could help Pakistan in production and trade of tropical fruits, vegetables, etc and invited Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in aquaculture, shrimps production and hatchery management in Pakistan assuring all possible help and assistance to them.
The minister informed the visitors about friendly environment for investment in the country. On the occasion, the private sector representatives from Pakistan interacted with their Bangladeshi counterparts to explore the possibility of further expansion in bilateral trade both commodity as well as quantum-wise.
The delegation showed great interest in importing various agricultural products and appreciated the recent developments made in the agriculture sector and economy.
Bangladeshi delegation comprised Chief Executive Officer Petrochem International, Chairman Khan Sons Group, Chairman KDS Group of Companies, Proprietor TASHO Enterprises, Managing Director Kallol Group of Companies, MD Utah Group, MD Black and Decker, CEO Aspect Distribution, Proprietor Barat Store, CEO Chinoy Enterprises, CEO Wellcot International and Proprietor China-Bangladesh Enterprises.
Federal Secretary Agriculture Ismail Qureshi, Vice-President Pakistan Central Cotton Committee, Director General Federal Plant Protection Department and representatives from Karachi Cotton Association, rice and dairy and poultry sectors were also present on the occasion, besides Commercial Secretary of Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka.
