Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has ruled out any possibility of governor's rule in NWFP saying the federal government has neither any intention to topple the Frontier government nor the governor rule was being imposed in the province.
"It was Pakistan Peoples Party which imposed governor rule by kicking out Mufti Mehmood the then chief minister of NWFP", Information Minister said while talking to reporters after handing over ceremony of Sujhan Singh Haveli to Fatima Jinnah Women University.
He said that the affairs in NWFP were not so much deteriorated that federal government would think over the option of governor rule in the province. The federation was not acting in any way against the NWFP chief minister, he said adding that whatever the NWFP chief minister was saying in his statements, were mere the echo of his inside fears.
He said that if the government had any such intention, then the NWFP government would not have pulled on for four years.
Federal minister said that government has restored the writ of the government in Balochistan. "It will take two more months to bring normalcy in the province, as government has destroyed the dens of the miscreants who are now facing utter frustration", he added.
Replying to a question, information minister said that Nawaz Sharif left the country on his own and Benazir Bhutto went abroad because of her corruption charges.
They were not barred from returning to country and they are at liberty. They should face cases against them because they would not be given any protocol at return, but they would have not any role in 2007 general elections, he added.
Terming the statements regarding the differences between Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Sindh, Sheikh Rashid said that the state of affairs in Sindh were under control the rumours regarding the differences between PML and MQM are absolutely baseless.
Earlier addressing the ceremony, Information Minister said that government would use all out efforts for promotion of quality education on all levels. He said that federal government would provide sufficient funds for FJWU and no stone would be left unturned in making this varsity a seat of knowledge of international standard.
He praised the assistance provided by Higher Education Commission (HEC) for National College of Arts in Rawalpindi and said that HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman has provided more than Rs 470 million for the college. He expressed hope that HEC would provide funds generously for the varsity too.
Minister announced to hand over Lal Haveli, his political headquarter and Haveli and land in Bagh Sardaran to Fatima Jinnah Women University for campus and hostel. He said that this was a better use of these historical buildings and it serves the purpose of the people who build these buildings.
He said that a tunnel was connecting Main Campus of FJWU, which was once power seat in Potohar in 19th century and later in 1980s, Sujhan Singh Haveli and Bagh-e-Sardaran. "The Tunnel would be opened to provide better link to different campuses of the varsity", he added.
