The Awaz Foundation Pakistan (AFP) has strongly opposed the appointment of 800 retired army officials as monitoring officers in the education department, and 50 as district patrolling police officers.
Awaz Foundation Pakistan Center for Development Services Chief Executive Muhammad Ziaur Rehman strongly criticised the Punjab government for appointing the retired army officers and said the government must appoint civilians on these seats, demanding forthwith cancellation of these appointments.
He said 32 monitoring officers were appointed in 1999 on three-year contract while these officers were given extension for further three years in 2002 again. He said that there was no justification to appoint the retired/ex-servicemen when the figures of jobless persons had gone high sky.
He said 15 million people of the country, 50,000 youths of them highly qualified, were facing unemployment. He asked the government to avoid such kinds of illegal and unjust decisions.
