US stocks gained on Tuesday, boosted by shares of Dow component 3M Co, a drop in crude oil prices and a decline in bond yields. Diversified manufacturer 3M unveiled plans that could result in the sale of its drug unit, one of several potential corporate deals.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 53.15 points, or 0.48 percent, at 11,198.09. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 5.09 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,302.90. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.22 points, or 0.27 percent, at 2,342.96.
