Purchase centers have been established in all the wheat growing areas in Punjab and their number would be increased whenever needed, Provincial Food Minister, Chaudary M Iqbal said on Thursday.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said the Punjab Food Department would start wheat procurement from April 20 in the province and continue to buy till the last grain at the support price of Rs 415 per 40 kilogram.
He said that wheat procurement would be made daily without any break, even on holidays, adding that April 20 had been fixed as the final date of making wheat procurement.
He said that a four-member committee comprising representatives from the district government, local MPA, farmers and councillor concerned would supervise the transparent wheat procurement at each center to ensure a fair deal with the growers.
To ensure effective procurement, he said that high officials, including ministers, advisers, members of Chief Minister Inspection Team and senior Food Department officials would conduct inspections of the procurement centers, he added.
The minister said that the government was making concerted efforts to promote agriculture sector, adding that the agriculture department was taking effective measures to improve the standard of wheat on modern and scientific lines. He said the government was encouraging farmers to increase their agri produce by providing various incentives.
