Moong and gram were sharply higher on the commodity wholesale markets during the week ended on April 8, 2006. Modest fluctuations were also marked in jute goods, chemicals, plastic mouldings, cotton cakes etc.
The opening day on the markets saw moong Punjab sharply higher by Rs 250 to Rs 4750 on strong demand, jute gates which were mixed such as jute goods twine 20x3 Brown up 50 paisa to Rs 39, 16x3 CRT Indus up 50 paisa to Rs 39 40x2 brown up 50 paisa to Rs 36.50, Hessian cloth 45x9 down Rs 50 to Rs 1,600, 50x8 Thul down Rs 30 to Rs 1470, 45x8 United down Rs 25 to Rs 1,300, Pineapple Thaipine 565 gm down Rs 10 to Rs 625 and milk king of kings was quoted at Rs 1975.
On Tuesday gram garda Punjab lost Rs 50 to Rs 2350-2400, gram dal Punjab followed suit and was down by Rs 50 to Rs 2750/2475, dal beetle lost Rs 50 to Rs 2800/2850. Chemicals were mixed such as Oxalic acid China turned down by Re 1 to Rs 34, citric acid China turned down by Re 1 to Rs 45, petroleum jelly sulphonic acid soft was quoted at Rs 69, Sitara Caustic soda flakes down Re 1 to Rs 32, Rangolite C China down Re 1 to Rs 30, Rangolite Germany down Rs 3 to Rs 112, India same item down Rs 2 to Rs 42 and acetic acid Taiwan turned higher by Rs 2 to Rs 72.
On Wednesday guwar turned higher by Rs 25 all stations to Rs 1925/2125, cottonseed cakes rose by Rs 5 to Rs 540, while the other side was put at Rs 550, on Thursday gram prices rose sharply by Rs 50 to Rs 2400 while better type was seen at Rs 2450 yellow peas Canada gained Rs 35 to Rs 1375 and better was quoted at Rs 1425, yellow peas dal picked up Rs 25 to Rs 1500/1550, beetle chana I up sharply by Rs 75 to Rs 2500 and better up quoted at Rs 2550, masoor from Australia and Canada both gave in Rs 50 to Rs 2800, wheat Mexipak new quoted at Rs 1040 and guwar stayed put.
Plastic mouldings were mixed: HDPE injection Mobil 016 shed 50 paisa to Rs 88.50, LLDPE W118 up 50 paisa to Rs 40, 7089 up 50 paisa to Rs 40, Sabic 500026 down Re 1 to Rs 41, polypropylene film Thai up 25 paisa to Rs 41, polypropylene tape grade India up 25 paisa to Rs 40.25, Kuwait up 25 paisa to Rs 40.25, Saudia up 25 paisa to Rs 40.25, polystyrene Pakistani quoted at Rs 2444, High Impact Pakistani was quoted at Rs 2,588 BASF quoted at Rs 2700, ABS polylac 707 up Rs 50 to Rs 2900 and Khumo up Rs 10 to Rs 2830.
On Friday moong Punjab gave away Rs 200 as rising prices restrained buying. Meanwhile supply also improved. Australian and Canadian masoor came under pressure and yielded Rs 100 each to Rs 2700, Irri White low type lost Rs 5 to Rs 865 and better lost Rs 10 to Rs 880, castorseeds Lasbela registered at Rs 700 while better was seen at Rs 750 raw rubber was higher as Ceylon's RSSV rose by Rs 4.50 to Rs 64.50 Pale Crape TPC3 up Rs 5 to Rs 70 and Thai (GT) up Rs 55 to Rs 470 and Letex Semnan Tex up Rs 55 to Rs 470.
