Singapore share prices closed 0.33 percent lower Wednesday on profit-taking following Wall Street's overnight slump and a sharp rise in oil prices, dealers said.
The Straits Times Index fell 8.41 points to 2,546.25. Volume totalled 1.49 billion shares worth 1.34 billion Singapore dollars (832 million US). Losers outpaced gainers 309 to 258 with 629 shares unchanged.
Blue chips closed mixed with Singapore Airlines falling 0.20 to 13.90 and Singapore Telecommunications remaining flat at 2.680.
Singapore Press Holdings, which is due to release its second quarter results after the market's closure rose 0.04 at 4.52.
Technology stocks closed mostly lower with STATS ChipPAC retreating 0.04 to 1.200, Creative slipping 0.20 to 10.0, Chartered Semiconductor falling 0.02 to 1.500 and ST Engineering gaining 0.09 to 3.06.
Banking stock DBS lost 0.10 to 16.60, United Overseas Bank gained 0.10 to 15.90 and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp eased 0.05 to 6.70.
