The government will observe Education for All (EFA) week from April 24-30 by attributing the year to teachers with the slogan "Every Child Need a Teacher", Business Recorder learnt here on Thursday.
The sources said that the Education Ministry in collaboration with Unesco and other NGOs will organise host of activities, including "Official back to school day" and "Big hearing" to highlight the issues and challenges being faced by the teachers.
Unesco has prepared a dossier entitled "The case for teachers", which would be filled up by the teachers and submitted to their heads by April 15 who would subsequently constitute a committee to select five best dossiers for onward submission to the ministry before April 18.
It (dossier) will endorse contribution of teachers in achieving the EFA targets by asking queries such as issues and challenges of early childhood; primary and adult literacy education; how the teacher has contributed or could contribute in achieving EFA goals and what is expected from the communities?
Politicians, parliamentarians and district-level representatives will be invited to visit a school, non-formal education or literacy centre on the eve of "Official back to school day" on April 26. The teachers will represent and discuss the dossier with the visitors.
The "Big hearing" will be organised on April 28, which will provide an opportunity for public debate on teachers' performance. The dossier will be presented to the dignitaries, including the president or the prime minister, education and finance ministers and donors as well as celebrities, teachers, union leaders and journalists.
When the dossier with the name of authors would be handed over to a person, he would be requested to pledge to improve the situation and write back to the authors about the activities regarding his commitment.
