Islamic nations have a "duty" to fill a gap in aid to the Hamas-led Palestinian government, an Iranian official said Friday, as the Islamic republic opened a conference on supporting the Palestinian people.
"It's a duty of all the Islamic nation, in the face of sanctions or the American and Europeans not giving money, to help the Palestinian people who are under a great deal of pressure," Mahmoud Mohammadi, a prominent MP and one of the organisers of the conference, told AFP.
Mohammadi said the Tehran conference was a display of "Islamic solidarity to defend Qods (Jerusalem) against the Zioist regime, which is trying to destroy the holy place of Muslims, and also to give our support to the aims and goals of the Palestinian people - the creation of Palestine with Qods as its capital."
