The Lahore High Court (LHC) has called for report and comments for April 27, in a petition filed against a bus incident in which the vehicle had caught fire due to fireworks, and observed the report should contain the proposals and suggestions to stop such events in future.
The petitioner, a member of the Lahore High Court bar Muhammad Azhar, approached the court and contended that about fifty persons were killed in that incident as the bus had not been manufactured in accordance with specifications in the law, and as a result of which, people failed to jump from the vehicle's windows or gate. He said that according to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, the respondents were responsible to issue license after a thorough examination of the bus and its manufacture in accordance with the law.
He said that the bus in question had narrow windows and only a single gate to exit. The court, after hearing the petitioner at length, issued notices to the respondent and called for report.
