Twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are facing meat shortage owing to closure of meat shops in certain areas. After bird flu crisis, prices of mutton and beef have gone very high. Due to smuggling of the livestock to Afghanistan, Iran and other neighbouring countries.
There is shortage of goats, cows and other animals in the cattle markets and insufficient to meet the requirements. Meanwhile, the hotel owners have also increased prices of their dishes of meat after its increase in the market. Consumers complained in a survey that prices of mutton and beef have gone up more than 50 percent during the last fifteen days.
