City District Government Karachi Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed road to connect the National Institute of Cardio-Vascular Diseases (NICVD) with Sharea Faisal to provide a direct access to the ambulances and patients attending the institute.
On the occasion, the NAB Director General Major General Mukhtar Ahmed and National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD) Director Sultan Farooqui were also present.
Talking to newsmen, the City Nazim said a large numbers of patients were paying visit regularly to the institute from all over the city adding that sensing the problems faced by the patients, the CDGK got the land from the NAB - Sindh to provide it for getting the road built. He said the project was completed only in 45 days at the estimated cost of Rs 3.2 million.
He said the linkage of the institute with the main road was not the complete solution of the problems being faced by the patients attending the institute for treatment purposes, adding that to get the problems resolved permanently, the CDGK had chalked out a plan to link the upper-road of the fly-over being constructed at Shahrah-e-Faisal with the institute.
Mustafa Kamal said several uplift projects were being carried out in the metropolis simultaneously including underpasses, fly-overs and roads to facilitate the Karachiites on long-term basis.
City Nazim estimated that around 11 headway pedestrian bridges were badly needed at various points on Shahrah-e-Faisal to facilitate the pedestrians. However, construction work on four such pedestrian bridges had been initiated while construction of other remaining pedestrian bridges would soon be initiated, he added.
