A project submitted by Higher Education Commission (HEC) to strengthen and develop Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro has been approved by the Central Developmental Working Party (CDWP) in its recent meeting.
The Rs 469 million project has been defined not only for construction of buildings for Bio-Medical Engineering Department, Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management but also to strengthening and enhance its laboratories, said a press release issued here on Friday.
Additional class rooms, residential accommodation for female students, communal facilities for students and staff, equipment for laboratories, extension of information and communication facilities including the latest online lecture facility using IP based video conferencing facility will also be a part of the project.
The project aims at strengthening the existing infrastructure and academic facilities of teaching and research and improving the quality of education in already established disciplines.
Through the project university will also establish firm linkages among academia, R&D institutions and industry in order to provide support through a broad based partnership to enhance further the sector's governance and management.
In order to enhance human resource development, 20 students will be sent abroad for PhD studies after qualifying an HEC organised national level test.
The students will be appointed as faculty members after completion of their doctorates in leading foreign universities.
