World Wide Funds for Nature for Pakistan (WWF-P) in collaboration with Cleaner Technology Programme (CTP) for Industry has organised a training workshops for textile processing mills (TPMs) on water and energy conservation, and better environmental management practices (BEMPs) in Lahore, Karachi and Faisalabad.
According to a WWF-P's spokesman here on Wednesday, these workshops have been organised under a project funded by EU-Pakistan Small Projects Facility. Anton Kaasjager, a consultant from a Dutch Textile Training Institute, was the main resource person for these trainings.
He sensitised the participants on issues related to environmental compliance, why it is necessary and how it helps in saving money. Through presentations and various exercises, he identified typical concerns of textile processing sector and enhanced the participants' knowledge about the effectiveness of direct and indirect benefits of implementation of water and energy conservation measures in TPMs.
Representatives from local TPMs were also called to share their experience of BEMPs already implemented, and the potential savings experienced by their respective units.
The EU-Pakistan Small Projects Facility is an initiative of the European Commission to promote co-operation between Pakistan and the European Union.
The programme supports innovative projects in areas of joint interest to Pakistan and the EU, notably in governance and business to business cooperation. This is the second series of workshops held under the EU and WWF textile project.
