The Disaster Relief Management Society (DRMS) has decided to extend financial assistance to the earthquake hit people and initially 1,000 families would be provided help for one year while another 1,000 families would be brought into the net very soon.
The decision was taken by the Board of Directors of Disaster Relief Management Society, which met at CM Secretariat in Lahore on Saturday with PML Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in the Chair.
Former Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa, who is spearheading Own A Family programme of the Punjab Government, LCCI President Mian Shafqat Ali, President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr Nouman Idress Butt, President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce President Multan Chamber of Commerce besides the Board Members of Disaster Relief Management Society were also press in the meeting. The meeting, which continued for well over an hour also took stock for whole situation and debated various issues facing the people in the earthquake hit areas, said a message received here.
The PML Chief and Chairman Disaster Relief Management Society Ch Shujaat Hussain while briefing the participants about the financial assistance being extended to the earthquake-hit people said that the present government was not only taking care of their day-to-day needs but also making efforts for ensuring quality education to them.
The PML Chief said the government in collaboration with Al Nahyan Trust has established a school for the earthquake hit children.
He said that the institution would be of World Class wherein not only the student would be provided free of cost education but boarding and lodging facilities would also be given.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said the teaching staff in the school would be foreign qualified. He said that the top priority in the school would be given to those students who have lost their parents.
The PML Chief said the attempt to make the system financial assistance more transparent and fool proof, the government was taking a number of measures and all the detail would be available on the website of the Disaster Relief Management Society.
Provincial Minister for Law Muhammad Basharat Raja, Mian Muhammad Yousaf Salah-ud-Din, Gohar Ejaz, Meera Philbus, Saadia Shahzad, Hamesh Khan Provincial Secretary Information Azmat Taimoor Usman who are the Directors of the Disaster Relief Management Society attended the meeting.
