Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Sunday asked the Rangers to take a stern action against landlords and corrupt government employees involved in breaking watercourses and theft of irrigation water.
He also directed the irrigation department to take necessary steps to ensure proper distribution of water, so that irrigation water could also reach to tail-end growers.
Meanwhile, Dr Arbab on Sunday telephoned Chief Engineers of Sukkur and Guddu Barrages and got information about available water at those barrages.
He was told that presently water shortage in Sindh was due to natural reasons and hopefully it would end when water would reach the province by June 1.
He was told that presently, 48,000 cusecs water was available at the Guddu Barrage, while the water demand was 62,000 cusecs, and that shortage would be meet in two days. He was told that 90,000 cusecs water was available in the Indus at Kalabagh and hopefully it would reach Sindh province in a few days, after which the problem of water shortage could be lessened.
This year snow at mountains melted late and water reached Sindh province late, they informed the chief minister.
