The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has no immediate strategy to overcome the prevailing water crisis in Islamabad except receive sufficient rainfall till July.
Director Water Supply (CDA) Jamil-ur-Rehman told Business Recorder here on Monday that Simly dam has sufficient water to meet the Capital's requirements till July.
However, the concerned director did not have any concrete plan about the urgent water demand in case the current drought-like situation persists beyond July 2006.
He said that Simly dam receives almost 54 cusecs water against 115 cusecs of daily consumption in the capital city and the gap is meeting through tube wells.
The director claimed that every sector of the capital is getting water according to its need, but on the other hand the directorate is receiving a number of complaints about water suspension from different parts of the city.
When his attention was drawn towards this issue, he said "People are in habit of lodging complaints to the authorities about all the problems they face".
However, sources informed this correspondent that CDA has no effective strategy to arrange the required water in future as the proposed water supply from Ghazi Barotha is a three year project and needs almost Rs 12 billion for its completion.
The PC-I of the project has not so far been prepared for submission to Ecnec, an official of the water directorate disclosed.
The sources were of the view that the existence severe water shortage could aggravate further in the coming days unless the city receives rainfall. The dams supplying water to the twin cities have almost touched dead level.
