Exports of textile made-ups declined by 14.35% while art silk synthetic textile exports decreased by 38.17% and other textile category exports have registered a decline of 46.65% during July-February period of current fiscal against same period of preceding year.
This was stated by Chairman, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) Rana Arif Tauseef, here on Saturday, while talking to newsmen. He said that textile made-ups exports for July-February 2004-05 were $320 millions but dwindled to $274 millions in corresponding period of 2005-06, showing a decrease of 14.35%. Similarly export of art silk synthetic textile was $207 millions in July-February 2004-05 but fell to $128 millions in same period of current fiscal 2005-06, a fall of 38.17%.
In other textile product category the exports plummeted from $111 millions in July-February 2004-05 to paltry $59 millions in same period of 2005-06 showing a decline of 46.65%, he said.
Exports of cloth also declined from $207 millions in July 2005 to $154 millions in November 2005 (current fiscal) which in quantity terms also decreased from 302 million sq. mtrs to 177 million sq. mtrs during same period, he added.
Pinpointing the factors leading to this sharp decline in textile sectors Rana Arif Tauseef said "Level Playing field was denied to Pakistani exporters visa-a-vis exporters from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, China on account of non-competitiveness of costlier production cost".
