US stocks bounced back on Tuesday as rising global commodity prices boosted shares of energy and metals companies such as Exxon Mobil Corp and Alcoa Inc.
The recovery in stocks came amid two weeks of turbulence in which investors fled from equities, wiping out the Nasdaq Composite Index's gains for the year, as they feared higher interest rates would hobble world economic growth.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 46.18 points, or 0.42 percent, at 11,171.51. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 6.69 points, or 0.53 percent, at 1,268.76. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 17.30 points, or 0.80 percent, at 2,190.16.
