Kenyan tea prices were mixed at this week's auction, with some grades easing because of dipping quality, traders said on Wednesday. Mombassa-based Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said 120,586 packages were offered for sale, compared with 117,880 packages at last week's auction.
The total, 8,418 were unsold, compared with 8,040 unsold at the last auction. "There was good but less widespread demand at irregular rates for the 120,586 packages on offer which eased as the sale progressed with some withdrawals," ATB said in its report. Brighter Best Pekoe Ones (BP1s) fetched $2.00-$2.70 per kg compared with $2.10-$2.58 at the last auction.
"Brighter BP1s saw less demand, declining by $0.06 to $0.10, but a few invoices appreciated by up to $0.13 with quality," ATB said.
