The newly appointed NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Orakzai (Retd) was administered oath of his office in function held here Governor's House. The Chief Justice Peshawar High Court, Justice Tariq Pervez administered oath to him.
The oath taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, federal and provincial ministers and officials of civil and military bureaucracy. In a brief chat with newsmen after taking oath of his office Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan (Retd) said that the prevailing problems in tribal area would be resolved through peaceful means and with consultation of all colleagues. He said that being a tribesman, he is fully aware of the problems confronting the tribesmen and was hopeful that all problems would be resolved.
The biggest problem in tribal area, Orakzai said is law and order and all possible steps would be taken to resolve it on priority basis. He said that tribesmen are peace-loving people, saying he had observed both in the capacity of a Corps Commander and as a tribesman by himself. However, he said that the misguided elements would be brought on right path.
About the resolution of the problems in Waziristan, he said that he had talked to Chief Minister and both have agreed to resolve it through mutual understanding. On differences over the constitution of the tribal Jirga on the issue of Waziristan, he said that it is being constituted with the consultation of both Governor and Chief Minister.
He said, he is seeing no difficulties in resolution of the problem. "Any kind of problem in this regard he said would be resolved through table talks, which he termed the best available forum for the resolution of the any kind of problem.
"We would try to take along the provincial government in the resolution of the problems and would work jointly to resolve the prevailing problems in tribal area in a better manner," Orakzai concluded.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani reciprocated in the same tune saying that they are looking for establishing good working relationship with the Governor's House. He said that the provincial government has no reservations over the formation of the jirga for the resolution of the problem of Waziristan.
Replying a query regarding the proposed name of Khyber for the province, Durrani said that the matter would be resolved through evolving consensus among all political parties of the province.
