Kinnow is among the main exportable horticulture commodities from Pakistan. Annual production of kinnow on an average is estimated around 2 million tons. However, Pakistan reaped a bumper crop in 2005/06 much higher than the average figure.
This offered increased volume for export. Therefore, export also increased correspondingly and reached all time high level of around 200,000 tons. This increase attributed to an enabling environment provided by the Government, combined with strenuous efforts of the market players including exporters, growers and service providers.
In order to acknowledge the hard work of the stakeholders, encourage them to maintain this tempo and reward as token of appreciation the outstanding performers, companies/institutions and individuals, the celebration of National Kinnow Gala 2006 is being organised on 30th May, 2006 at hotel Marriott Islamabad. The honourable Minister of Commerce, Mr Humayun Akhtar Khan, will grace the occasion as Chief Guest.
The National Kinnow Gala will be attended by a cross section of stakeholders from the public and private sectors including growers, exporters and service providers. The key features of the event are distribution of awards to top ten kinnow export companies and one supporting company especially for export by road to CIS countries, three best growers, one organic grower, three logistic companies and one for developing seedless kinnow.
