The Lahore High Court (LHC), while taking serious note of violation of law by the police official sub-inspector Riaz Ahmed, has directed SSP Faisalabad to place him under suspension, and also initiate disciplinary proceedings against him for not arresting the accused involved in a Hudood case.
The court passed these orders during the course of proceedings in a bail application filed by one Anis Sadiq of Faisalabad facing charges of criminally assaulting a woman.
The court observed that under the provisions of Cr p c, an official of SP rank could arrest a person involved in a Hudood case with prior permission of the court. In the instant case, Riaz Ahmed not only conducted the raid but also investigating the case himself.
The court took serious note when counsel of the applicant informed the court about facts of the case.
LHC JUDGE RETIRES: Justice Shaikh Abdul Rashid of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday retired from his service after attaining the age of superannuating.
The Chief Justice and judges of the Lahore High Court gave a formal send-off to him in a simple but graceful ceremony.
ELECTION PETITION: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned till Thursday (June 01), the proceedings in an election petition against MPA Imtiaz Lali when his counsel was still submitting his arguments.
The petitioner Shabbir Lali had approached the court against the respondent MPA for contesting the election illegally. It was contended that the respondent was terminated from service on the charge of misconduct.
He said that returning officer allowed the respondent to contest election illegally and without lawful authority. He prayed to the court to set aside his election and also direct the election commission to hold fresh election in the constituency.
LAWYERS STRIKE TODAY: Lawyers community will observe strike on Thursday (June 01) to protest police aggression against the bar members. The Punjab Bar Council (PBC) has given a strike call to press the government to arrest the culprits involved in the murder of Syed Masroor Mehdi, and murderous attack on PBC member Muhammad Arif Bhinder.
The Lahore High Court Bar Association has also called an emergent general body meeting on Thursday (June 01).
MUSHARRAF GIVEN VOTE OF CONFIDENCE: PML Punjab vice-president and member Supreme Court Bar Association Jahangir Ashraf Vaince has said that present assemblies had not elected President Musharraf rather it had given him vote of confidence only.
Talking to newsmen, Jahangir, while belying the stance of opposition parties that the present assemblies had elected President Musharraf, said that vote of confidence did not mean election of the President. He said that Musharraf had become President of Pakistan through a referendum and present assemblies could elect him as President of Pakistan.
