Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon on Wednesday said the draft proposal for the conversion of diesel vehicles into CNG would soon be sent for approval to the Federal Cabinet.
After approval of the proposal, the conversion of diesel vehicle into CNG would be started across the country, he made these remarks while inaugurating 'Conversion' section of Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) here.
The minister said CNG sector in the country had attracted a record investment during a short span of time and now it was ranked number one in Asia and the third largest CNG user in the world. The conversion of diesel vehicles into CNG would not only control environmental pollution but also help decrease import bill of diesel, which is about more than $1.5 billion per annum, he added. He appreciated the role of HDIP for promotion of petroleum sector, which introduced CNG technology in the country in 1984.
HDIP Director General Hilal A Raza said more than 950 CNG stations had been established in the country while the number of CNG-fitted vehicles had reached to 850,000. He informed that the CNG sector registered 67 percent increase during the last year while the number of CNG stations and CNG-fitted vehicles was likely to increase manifold in next few years.
