Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has reiterated the government's resolve to provide people better health care, education and pure drinking water saying that it would raise the life expectancy and improve living standard of masses.
"The work on 400-bed hospital was initiated at TB hospital, and all other hospitals of Rawalpindi would be improved and equipped with modern facilities", the Minister said while addressing a public meeting after inauguration of the Milad Park in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed on Friday.
Parliamentary Secretary Raja Rashid Hafeez and Rawal Town Nazim Sh Rashid Shafique also addressed the gathering.
The Minister said that he was committed to build better health care facilities in Rawalpindi to make sure the treatment of every disease. "After improving education sector, I have targeted health sector and I will use all my energies in this regard", he added.
To control the water crisis in the city, pipelines of big diameter would be laid connecting Ghazi Brotha with Rawalpindi, he said adding that the proposal would be submitted to Ecnec very soon.
He said that President Musharraf had given him directive to connect Rawalpindi and Islamabad through rail. The super highway on Murree Road from Marree to Chandni Chowk would also be expanded. He said that the work on multi-purpose causeway on both embankments of Nullah Leh would start within 60 days. In addition to this all the main roads of the city would also be revamped, he added.
Shaikh Rasheed further said that new sectors being developed in Islamabad were the property of Rawalpindi natives. People are purchasing land on very cheap rates and selling it worth billions but the real owners were getting no benefit, he said adding that after inclusion of Rawalpindi in Islamabad the rates of land and property would go up, which would benefit people.
Shaikh Rasheed announced the up-gradation of Girls High School Khayaban-e-Sir Syed to Higher Secondary School level and assured that all modern facilities would be provided to educational institutions. He also announced construction of park in Khayaban on Railway land and said that the total cost of the park would be borne by Pakistan Railways.
Nazim Rawal Town Shaikh Rasheed Shafique while addressing the gathering promised better civic facilities to masses saying that Town administration would use its entire means for cleanliness and provision of safe drinking water.
He announced setting up two-filter plant in the region besides renovation of the Children Park.
