Pima for raise in healthcare allocation

The Pakistan Islamic Medical Association has demanded that at least three percent of the GNP should be allocated for the health sector improvement in the country, which they warned was on the downward slide in Pakistan.
The medical experts present at the Pima press conference on Friday, included leading child specialist Dr Ghaffar Billo, leading heart specialist Dr Ejaz Vohra, Professor Muhammed Wasey of the Aga Khan University along with PIMA Secretary General Dr Syed Ahmer Hamid, Information Secretary Dr Abdul Malik and others.
The health experts said that the Pakistan scene was extremely depressing because healthcare was not available to the average citizen as needed. Child fatalities at birth were 90 in a 1000.
The expenditure on health was only 0.7 percent of the GNP. Pakistan ranked 142 in 177 countries in this respect.
