US stocks fell on Tuesday, with the Dow dropping below 11,000 for the first time since early March, as recent warnings about inflation from top Fed officials increased expectations for more interest-rate hikes and dimmed the outlook for economic growth.
Shares especially sensitive to higher interest rates, including the banks J.P. Morgan Chase & Co and Bank of America Corp, were the S&P 500's heaviest decliners.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 86.20 points, or 0.78 percent, at 10,962.52. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 7.06 points, or 0.56 percent, at 1,258.23. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 18.90 points, or 0.97 percent, at 2,150.72.
