A 12,000 tonnes ship has anchored at Gaddani beach for scrapping. According to details, a ship 'Flag Supplier' has been brought and anchored at Gaddani ship breaking yard along Balochistan coast close to Karachi.
The ship was built in 1978 in Japan. It is 672 feet long, 99 feet wide and 36 feet high. It has been transporting sugar, wheat, fertilisers and rice in various countries of the world. It had the capacity of loading 60,000 weight.
A renowned ship breaker Malik Muhammad Azam told correspondents that he had called on President General Pervez Musharraf during his visit to Marble City Gaddani and requested him to review taxes imposed on ship breaking industry and President had assured of paying attention on this industry.
Maik Azam said after President's assurance, future of ship breaking industry seems to be bright and once again arrival of ships has started for dismantling. Answering a question he said prices of old ship is 350 dollars per tonne. The 'Flag Supplier' would provide million of rupees revenue to Central Board of Revenue under head Sales Tax (15 percent) and Income Tax (1 percent).
