156 illegal FM channels closed

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has closed 156 illegal FM radio stations which were spreading sectarian hatred in the society. The Pemra has launched a campaign for closure of illegal FM radio stations with co-ordination of the NWFP government.
The Pemra is indebted to the NWFP public, the administration and the police for providing necessary support to close these stations.
Meanwhile, the NWFP government has been requested to take legal action against persons who manufacture and assemble small transmitters without permission and sell them to illegal operators. This action will go a long way in curbing this menace.
