The government is likely to appoint six advisers in the Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC) within a couple of days, a decision that has been pending for last one-and-a-half-year. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas Major Tahir Iqbal (Retd) said this while talking to this correspondent here on Saturday.
He said that the government had decided to appoint the advisers within short span of time, as the matter has already been much delayed due to some reasons.
Interestingly, the council (NALC) has been functioning without its cabinet members since election held on October 12, 2004.
After the election, NALC remained incomplete for almost one-and-a-half year because of not electing six women members and six technocrats.
However, the election for the these special seats held in March 2006 and almost all the seats were won by the ruling PML except two women seats that went to ARD.
President Pervez Musharraf under the Legal Frame Order (LFO) has given these extra seats to the council for the first time.
But, the process took extra time due to a tug of war over their selection criteria between former federal minister for KANA division Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat and PML's stalwarts in the center.
