US Ambassador in Pakistan Ryan C. Crocker called on NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Mohammad Jan Orakzai (Retd) at Governor's House here on Monday. He discussed with the Governor various matters of mutual interests. Peshawar-based US Consul Micheal Spangler also accompanied the distinguished guest.
The matters relating to development activities in Fata being carried out for the wellbeing of the people of the area came under discussion.
In response to a point, the Governor said indeed the development process needs to be further accelerated and we would not allow suffering the respective people because of lack of facilities.
As far as development funds are concerned, he added, being the federally administered area, the Government of Pakistan is providing sufficient resources. Referring to another point, he remarked we have effective mechanism to implement the development projects and ensure the proper utilisation of the resources. But at the same time, he said, efforts would be continued for capacity of building of all the concerned line departments to enable them to further improve their working and implement the development projects to the maximum extent.
In fact, Orakzai said, an organisation in the name of Fata Development Authority is being created on the one hand while on the other efforts are also under way to further improve the monitoring system on the development schemes.
The governor said learning from the past experiences, effective strategies are being chalked out to make the development process useful to the maximum extent in the best interests of the respective people.
Referring to a point regarding the poppy eradication, the governor also made it clear, that efforts would continue in future as well to fully curb the cultivation of the crop and encourage the people to shift over to the alternative means of earnings for them.
