I would like to refer to the above captioned letter in your issue of 7th June. I may add that corruption in the KESC's lower level, though widely prevalent, seems to attract no notice of the top-level management.
In the instant case of installation of new metres these are routinely advanced so as to record more consumption than actual. Complaints with the KESC complaint centres in this regard are of no effect. But, and it is a big but, the installation personnel would retard the metre for a consideration. The consideration is between three and five thousand, otherwise, the consumer will be in for excess billing on a regular basis because of fictitious metre readings.
KESC would be well-advised to pay immediate attention to the menace of manipulated metre readings the unscrupulous field personnel. The ill-will caused between the consumers and the KESC needs to be removed with an iron hand.
