Punjab Finance Minister Husnain Bahadur Dareshak on Thursday said that Punjab government was planning a programme to supply 10 basic daily items on cheaper rates to masses at their doorsteps.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said government would procure sugar, flour, pulses and other food items from market and supply it to small shops and stores in villages on discount. He added that it would not be possible for any consumer to travel to Tehsil headquarter for the purchase of these items.
The government would issue franchise card and licenses to shopkeepers in all villages, he said, adding that they would purchase sugar, flour, pulses and other food items from central stores on discount.
To a question he said, total allocations for development expenditure in budget 2006-07 is Rs 100 billion while Rs 13.7 billion have been set aside for education.
The minister said in the budget Rs 6 billion have been earmarked for health, Rs 5.5 billion for public health, Rs 2.5 billion for agriculture and Rs 2 billion for industries.
