Pakistan Army troops serving under UN in south Kivu province of Congo have undertaken multifarious tasks to maintain law and order in the country and to protect the local population from aggression of foreign armed groups.
During last few days three major looting/killing attempts were averted due to protective measures undertaken by Pakistani troops, which otherwise could have resulted into loss of precious lives and property.
Pakistani troops have launched various operations to check rebels movement within and across the country. Mobile operating bases have been established in collaboration with the Congolese Army in Bunyakiri, Kanyola and Walungu towns to protect the local population.
These bases have also helped block the infiltration of rebels from north Kivu province to south Kivu province, within the country and infiltration of armed groups from Rwanda and Brundi.
Pakistani troops are also resorting to extensive patrolling in their area of responsibility to maintain law and order. During last one week 311 patrols were sent out to the dominant area and provide secure passage to civil vehicles and population. Special patrols are sent on Sundays in the vicinity of churches for the protection of civil population.
