Mexico sugar chamber sees higher production

Mexico's sugar industry chamber on Monday predicted production would be near 5.5 million tonnes for the 2006/2007 harvest, slightly above a previous estimate by the country's growers union. The chamber said it would have the industrial capacity to process 6 million tonnes in the next harvest.
The National Cane Workers Union, the main source for production estimates, said in April it expected production during the 2006/2007 season to be about the same as the current 2005/2006 season, for which it foresees output between 5.3 million and 5.4 million tonnes. The industry chamber projected that 2005/2006 production would total 5.3 million tonnes.
