ISLAMBAD: The government is taking various steps to control the shortage of natural gas across the country through enhancement of indigenous gas production, import of liquefied natural gas (LPG), promotion of LPG air mix and import of the gas from Iran and Turkmenistan.
Responding to a question in the National Assembly, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jan Kamal Khan informed the House that campaigns were being launched through print and electronic media for creating awareness amongst general public / domestic consumers on conservation of natural gas.
He said both the gas utility companies were authorized to prepare and implement natural gas load management plan as per Natural Gas Allocation and Management Policy 2005, as amended form time to time.
Replying to a question of Sheikh Roheel, the minister said every year Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority provided around 300,000 connections across the country, but sometimes number of applications exceeded causing delay in provision of connections.
The government, he said, had introduced the fast-track connection system to generate the revenue.
Replying to a question of Nafeesa Shah, Kamal said the government was providing gas to all the industrial sectors through RLNG.
