Former Ambassador Dr Maqbool Ahmed Bhatti said on Monday that there existed great scope for the expansion of trade ties between Pakistan and Qatar.
Referring to the recently concluded visit of Qatar's Foreign Minister, he said in a PTV programme that Sheikh Hamid bin Jasim, who was also the Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar, held wide ranging discussions with President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
He said Qatar was a rich country with 12,OOO dollars per-capita income and its relations with Pakistan were very cordial. Both Qatar and Pakistan held unanimous stance on all the regional and international issues, he said, adding there was a gap in economic ties between the two countries, which would now be filled.
He said that alongside widening of trade volume between the two countries, the investors from Qatar would follow the suit of other Middle Eastern countries to do business in Pakistan vis-à-vis the conducive environment.
Maqbool Bhatti said that the Emir of Qatar was scheduled to visit Pakistan by end of this year, adding the visit would prove to be a milestone for the boost of economic ties between the two nations.
