Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro has emphasised the need for setting up of global fund to meet emergency requirements in disaster situation.
Speaking as chief guest at the annual dinner of the Association of Pakistan Physicians of North America (Appna), the Senate chairman said that an international early warning system would greatly help in reducing difficulties of the people of the affected areas.
He lauded the valuable contribution made by the Association for the earthquake victims, says in a message received here on Sunday from Chicago. Recalling the devastation caused by the earthquake in October, the Senate Chairman said, "we have fully realised the importance of an integrated disaster management plan and disaster management authority and steps were being taken to set up an institution with adequate powers, resources and skills to address future contingencies. He pointed out that the government has distributed Rs 20 billion among the victims.
The President of the Association of Pakistan Physicians of North America, Dr Piracha paid glowing tributes to the Senate chairman for his outstanding contribution for the victims of the deadly earthquake and also for facilitating the foreign rescue teams.
Earlier, delivering presidential address at the annual get-together Pakistan American Congress commended the role played by Pakistan America Congress and the Pakistanis residing in US for highlighting Pakistan's true image as a moderate and enlightened Muslim country.
