Multan police smashed 31 gangs of criminals during last six months yielding recovery of looted cash and goods worth Rs 11.5 million, a police spokesman said.
Total 3626 criminals including 1341 proclaimed offenders were arrested during the six-month long anti-crime operation that enabled police to recover overall looted cash and goods worth over Rs 82 million, the spokesman added.
"Closed circuit cameras have played a pivotal role in tracking down these gangs and the achievement has prompted the district government to allocate sizable funds for installation of more cameras at important places and cross-sections in the city."
The looted goods including three cars, 44 motorcycles, one pick-up, 36 cattle heads, 64 phones, 87 tyres, besides gold ornaments, clothes and cash was recovered from these gangs.
Some 43 cattle heads worth Rs 2.5 million were recovered during operation against cattle lifters in the parts of Multan district particularly in areas near river Chenab like Shujabad and Jalalpur Pirwala.
Exactly 371 cases of illegal arms were registered and as many offenders were arrested yielding a recovery of 25 guns, 14 rifles, 215 pistols, 52 revolvers, 35 carbines, 18 daggers, 16 detonators, two kilogram of gun powder, six spools and 1088 bullets.
As many as 481 cases of narcotics were registered and 533 offenders were arrested.
