District Nazim, Mian Amer Mahmood, on Wednesday performed the groundbreaking of an underground water reservoir of 100,000 gallons capacity here at Circular Road near Masti Gate.
Briefing journalists about the significance of the project, Amer Mahmood said that upon completion at a cost of Rs 3.3 million within a period of two months, the project would enhance water supply for walled city localities besides augmenting aqua's pressure for public convenience.

The reservoir, which would be filled by operating tube-wells installed at Lahore Fort and Iqbal Park, would supply water to famous Pani Wala Talab at Langay Mandi, through three booster pumps, he said, adding that walled city areas were situated at altitude as compared with rest of the localities.
Water supply system had been first devised for this area in 1876 and a reservoir of one million gallons water storage capacity had been constructed in Langay Mandi, he said, that the City District Government remodelled water supply system in the walled city areas at a cost of Rs 14 million during 2003.
Presently 20 tubewells were functioning in this area for ensuring supply of clean drinking water to more than three hundred thousand residents of three union councils of this area, he added.
