An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi on Wednesday acquitted an activist of banned Harkatul Mujahideen Al Alami in conspiracy to assassinate President General Pervaiz Musharraf case as prosecution could not prove its charge against him.
Naveedul Hasan, earlier declared absconding co-accused, is accused of hatching conspiracy to assassinate President Pervaiz Musharraf in April 2002.
According to prosecution, accused, along with other co-accused, planned to assassinate President Pervez Musharaf and fitted explosive in vehicle at Shahra-e-Faisal Karachi to blow the convoy of President, which was to pass in April 2002 but Prosecution alleged Naveedul Hasan purchased a vehicle, for executing car-bombing at the convoy of President Musharaf.
Announcing judgement, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) headed by Judge Ghulam Ali A Samtio observed that prosecution failed to prove case against the defendant and ordered to release him if not involved in other cases.
Earlier, Mohammad Imran, Mohammad Hanif and Mohammad Ashraf Khan on October 18, 2003, were, however, sentenced to 10 years in prison each by ATC having found guilty of hatching conspiracy to assassinate Pervez Musharaf.
