The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) has evolved a strategy to set up Gujranwala Business Centre in Gujranwala at a cost of Rs 58 million.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that the aim of setting up of Gujranwala Business Centre was to provide a single promotional and display platform for a range of products manufactured in Gujranwala for attracting national and international buyers.
The centre would also provide a place for conducting meeting with the visiting foreign delegations and holding of national and international seminars.
The prime benefits of the project are provision of a tool to market 'Made in Gujranwala' as international brand, facilitating SME entrepreneurs to effectively display their products for marketing at national and international level, increase exposure for local businessmen to international business trends and ability to benchmark with the contemporary product standards besides, general compliance with international trade regulatory regime, motivation for improvement at all levels of value chain, including product design, quality, standards, packaging and presentation etc, resulting in value addition.
Gujranwala is an expanding industrial and commercial center with the main concentration of export-oriented enterprises. The production plants were located at inconvenient places hampering the access to the international buyers as well as lack of awareness on part of local entrepreneurs about international requirements.
The setting up of a common business centre in heart of the city presenting range of products manufactured in the city to foreign visitors will enhance the chances for products to reach international market.
The accomplishment of the project would contribute to the national economy through increased exports while generate employment opportunities. The work on the project would be undertaken shortly and its accomplishment would open new vista of industrial development in the area, the sources added.
