Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah called on Kemal ONAL, Governor (Vali) of Ankara and discussed with him matters of bilateral interest and mutual co-operation.
Shah expressed his sincere thanks to Ankara government for extending unprecedented material and financial help and assistance in recovery and rehabilitation of October 8, earthquake victims. He said there was no parallel to those unabated efforts, which the people of Ankara put in for healing the wounds of their Pakistani brethren.
Shah also updated the governor, about the recent visit of Shaukat Aziz Prime Minister of Pakistan and his meeting with his Turkish counterpart Racep Tayyip Erdogan and the significance of this meeting in the ongoing geopolitical regime.
The Ambassador also informed the Vali of Ankara about the recently concluded medal award ceremony at Islamabad, in which three families from Turkey were awarded Tamgha Esar (the medal for great sacrifice) for their contribution in October 8 earthquake.
The President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, awarded the medals to the parents of Ufuk Arsalan and Cenk Yakin, both Turkish Engineers who laid down their lives in saving the Pakistani earthquake victims and an 11-year old girl Erva, for donating her precious gold bangle.
