Senior Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) leader and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Naib Amir, Liaquat Baloch on Saturday held government and its law enforcing agencies (LEAs) responsible for killing of MMA leader Allama Hassan Turabi 'to divide people on sectarian basis.
"Continuous killings of renowned Ulema, politicians and social personalities is part of government and local agents of anti-Islam forces' conspiracy to keep people divided and city destabilised", he told a news conference at JI Karachi office, Idara Noor-e-Haq after attending funeral prayers of Allama Hassan Turabi and his nephew.
Other MMA leaders including MNA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, JI Karachi, Amir Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, MNA Abdul Sattar Afghani, MPAs Nasarullah Shajee and Younis Barai, JUP leader Siddiq Rathore and others were also present.
Liaquat Baloch said MMA had decided to observe protest day in Sindh and Punjab on Tuesday to register protest against Allama Turabi's assassination, during which protest demonstrations and rallies would be held to denounce government and press it for arrest of his killers. He said supreme council of religious parties' alliance was scheduled to meet in Peshawar today (July 16) to discuss law and order situation in the country, and to decide future course of action.
Liaquat Baloch, alleged that under a well-conceived conspiracy, the country was being pushed towards anarchy, with sole aim and objective to prolong military dictatorship in the country.
To a query, he said after Mumbai train blasts, possibility of foreign hand in assassination of Allama Hassan Turabi could not be ruled out but most importantly, 'it is government's failure to protect lives and properties of its citizens, especially religious leaders and scholars'.
