Executive Director, National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (Navtec), Khushnood Akhtar Lashari has said that technical education and vocational training will be made relevant to the needs of market.
Addressing the participants of National Education Policy Review meeting held here to discuss technical and vocational education in the country', he said that local industry should come forward and accommodate maximum number of persons as apprentices who complete their technical education and vocational training.
Lashari said efforts would be made to tap the dropouts at matriculation stage. These youth would be imparted technical education and vocational training to make them useful national asset, he added.
The Executive Director Navtec informed the participants that globalisation had affected the employment and skills standards. "Now more than 90 percent of the business was in small and medium enterprise sector," said Lashari.
This was reflective of the fact that economy was moving away from public sector protected into a globally integrated economy driven by private entrepreneurs.
Lashari also informed about latest labour market survey conducted by Navtec. According to the survey a total of 952 technical and training institutions exist having 158,766 students.
The participants included representatives of provincial technical education departments, donors, Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and other stakeholders.
The participants and the Executive Director Navtec had detailed discussion on current technical and training institutions scenario, deficiencies and issues, needs of the industry and linkage of education to the market and industry.
