Faisalabad Electric Supply Corporation (Fesco) has started purchasing electricity from the Private Power Producers (PPPs) to overcome the persistent power crisis and supply uninterrupted electricity to the consumers.
Public Relation Officer, Tahir Mehmood Sheikh told to newsmen that two PPPs -Nishat Energy and Crescent Energy - have started supplying electricity following signing agreements with Fesco, while negotiations with Sitara Energy, Zeeshan and Koh-i-Noor Energy were at the last stage and power supply to the consumers from these PPPs would start soon.
According to Fesco spokesman, these IPPS had responded positively to the Fesco demand and tried to supply maximum electricity. Presently, Nishat and Crescent groups are supplying eight MW electricity each while Nishat Group has promised to provide six MW electricity within a couple of days. Following the agreements with all five above-mentioned companies, Fesco will be able to get an additional 50 MW of electricity.
It is pertinent to mention here that several big industrial units in Faisalabad set up their own thermal power plants following severe energy crisis a few years back.
Meanwhile, Grid Station Construction Directorate of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) has successfully installed a double-capacity power transformer at 132-KV Grid Station Chiniot Industrial. This power transformer of 10/13 MVA has been replaced with the 20/26 MVA transformer.
It would help Fesco give new connections in addition to stabilising electricity supply in various localities of Chiniot, Tahir Mehmood Sheikh said. He further said the transformer purchased by Fesco from its own resources had been installed by the grid station construction staff only 10 hours. He added the power transformer of 10/13 MVA capacity removed from this grid station would now be shifted to 132-KV Satiana Grid Station.
