Heavy downpour lashed out Sialkot City and its adjoining areas on Monday, resultantly submerging several low lying areas and causes overflowing of city drains. Though rain brought relief to the people, choked city sewerage system has exposed the city district government's pre monsoon arrangements.
Many busy roads, including College road, Railway road, Kutchary road, Abbott road and Allama Iqbal chowk were submerged in rainwater and the citizens were facing serious hardships, as rainy waterways were seen unable to streaming the rainy water smoothly.
The Met office has recorded 88mm rain in five hours in Sialkot.
Meanwhile, the district government has chalked out a plan to cope with any eventuality during the monsoon season in the district. Official sources told Business Recorder that Sialkot district had been divided into 18 sectors and 35 sub-sectors while 31 relief camps had also been established in the district. According to them, 11 relief centres in Sialkot, seven in Daska, eight in Pasrur and five in Sambrial had been set up.
In addition to this protective embankments of rainy waterways had been repaired for protecting the Sialkot City and its adjoining areas, as seasonal nullahs passing through the city. The sources revealed that district flood control center had also been set up, which would be functioning round the clock.
